New Comics 04/20/2005

Another week and more new comics. As usual, I'll only list the books I'm most likely to pick up. Take a gander at the full shipping list here: Diamond Comics.
100 BULLETS #60 (MR) - Great book but I think it reads better in the trades. Fantastic art by Eduardo Risso.
BIRDS OF PREY #81
JLA #113 - Ugh. I thought the Kurt Busiek arc would be good.
JLA CLASSIFIED #6
OMAC PROJECT #1 (OF 6) - Don't miss this one. The build-up to Infinite Crisis continues here.
ROBIN #137 - This I may be dropping. Started picking this up after Robin's father was killed in Identity Crisis. The artwork is so bad though. Damion Scott used to a fun cartoony style. Now it looks like all his art is drawn with a Bic pen then dragged through the mud.
SUPERMAN #215 - The final Jim Lee pencilled issue.
TEEN TITANS #23 - Another Geoff Johns book. Can't wait until Ivan Reis takes over the art chores!AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #519
FANTASTIC FOUR #525 - I may skip this and the next issue. They are fill-ins until J. Michael Straczynski (Creator of Babylon 5) and Mike McKone take over.
SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #27 - The final issue. I may pick this up only because artist Mark Buckinham has done several Calvin & Hobbes homages throughout the story. We'll see.
SPIDER-MAN BREAKOUT #1 (OF 5) - Another Tony Bedard book. Gotta buy!
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #76
UNCANNY X-MEN #458 - Alan Davis artwork. 'Nuff said.
WOLVERINE #27 - Good stuff from writer Mark Millar. This is part of the second arc in a 12 issue run. In the first arc, Wolverine is brainwashed and takes on practically the whole Marvel Universe.
X-MEN #169 - Peter Milligan is a poor choice of a writer for this book. I'd much prefer Tony Bedard wrting with Paul Pelletier pencils!
YOUNG AVENGERS #3 - This is a good new title. Writer Allan Heinberg has a good comic "voice" and there are fun twists and plot turns already. Art by jim Cheung is great too.

Ok. All comics are read. Reviews, reviews, reviews...
DC COMICS
100 BULLETS #60 (MR) - Lots of intrigue in this book. There are conspiracies within conspiracies. Another fine effort.
BIRDS OF PREY #81 - New artist, Joe Bennett, debuts. Not as enjoyable as Ed Benes' art but passable. New storyline as the Huntress has left the Birds of Prey and a surprising twist to her whereabouts.
JLA #113 - One more issue to go on Busiek's run. Thank God. He's trying to be Grant Morrison and it's just not working.
JLA CLASSIFIED #6 - For those in the know, there are major changes going on in the DCU and most of them have occurred with the characters appearing in this story arc. Now this arc good, it's typical Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire fare but it's disconcerting to read about these characters when so much has changed with them.
OMAC PROJECT #1 (OF 6) - Remember those major changes I discussed earlier. See this issue for detatils!
ROBIN #137 - Skipped it even though there was a guest artist on board.
SUPERMAN #215 - So the Brian Azzarello and Jim Lee run comes to an end. The artwork in this issue is rushed, tons of inkers on the book and it falls apart. The story is lacking. Very dissapointing stroy from these two great creators.
TEEN TITANS #23 - It Dr. Light Vs. Everybody who was ever a Teen Titan.MARVEL
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #519 - Spidey moves into Avengers Headquarters. I enjoyed the beginning of this issue but with the last 10 or 11 pages the issue fell apart. The last pages had no Spidey in it. It focused entirely on the reintroduciton of a villain group into the Marvel Universe. It could have , and probably should have, been done in 2 or 3 pages. The artwork was awful too. Probably due to the fact that Mike Deodato has another book coming out shortly and he needed to cut some corners on this issue.
FANTASTIC FOUR #525 - Skipping this issue and #526.
SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #27 - Skipped it.
SPIDER-MAN BREAKOUT #1 (OF 5) - Two villains groups fight it out with Spider-Man stuck in the middle.
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #76 - Meet Harry Osborne, the new Hobgoblin.
UNCANNY X-MEN #458 - Finally, it feels like Chris Claremont is hitting on all X-Men cylanders. Alan Davis art is great too.
WOLVERINE #27 - Shoot. So much going on in this arc. Suffice it to say at the end of this issue, Wolverine promises to get revenge on 52,000 members of Hydra and the Hand!
X-MEN #169 - Reads like an X-File episode.
YOUNG AVENGERS #3 - Allan Heinberg really get comics. A cool new title.
