New Comics 04/13/2005

Gil posted this Comics entry at 09:48 AM on April 12, 2005

Here's a look at what comics I'll be buying on Wednesday. For the full shipping list of comics go to Diamond Comics.

Wow. An even smaller week this time out.

DC COMICS

ACTION COMICS #826 - The first of a three part crossover with Superman and The Adventures of Superman.
ADAM STRANGE #7 (OF 8) - Fun series. Reintroduces a bunch of DC's Sci-Fi based characters.
JSA #72 - Solid title. Geoff Johns writes great comics. I wish they'd get a better artist though. Don Kramer is hit or miss for me, mostly miss.
MAJESTIC #4 (MR) - Hmm. Not as enjoyable as the recent mini-series. This may be the last one I'm picking up.
NIGHTWING #107 - Picking this up because of the new art team. Gets maybe one shot to see if I pick up the next one.

MARVEL

EXILES #62 - Writer Tony Bedard is terrific. I try and buy everything he does.
IRON MAN #3 - Warren Ellis writes and I'm a big fan. Huge delays between issues though. I may drop it.
MARVEL KNIGHTS SPIDER-MAN #13 - On the fence for this one. Not sure of the new creative team, Reggie Hudlin writer, Billy Tan artist. I'll probably skip it now that I think about it.
POWERS #10 (MR) - Good gritty title set in a universe where superpowers are outlawed and the main characters are Homicide detectives investigating crimes that deal with beings using those superpowers.
ULTIMATE X-MEN #58 - Writer Brain Vaughn is losing me. I hate to say it but I may be dropping this title.
ULTIMATES 2 #5 - The Avengers of the Ultimate universe. Great art and writing from Bryan Hitch and Mark Millar. Pick of the week!

I started writing about the comics I bought today, but it ended up being kind of long so I just posted it on my site instead. So basically I swiped your post-theme for my own evil purposes. Mwahaha!

Well you linked back to me so I guess that's ok. But really, who's reading this site besides you and me?

I have lurkers! I'm sure of it! I can hear them breathing!

On to the reviews.

DC COMICS

ACTION COMICS #826 - Superman, Captain Marvel, and a new Eclipso. Meh. Story felt padded, artwork looked rushed.
ADAM STRANGE #7 (OF 8) - Good issue as Adam Strange returns home and we see the beginnings of the Rann/Thanagar War.
JSA #72 - Hmm. Issue wrapped up too quickly with nothing really resolved as is typical with Time Travel stories.
MAJESTIC #4 (MR) - Skipped it. I realized I liked the mini-series because Majestic was on the DC Universe's Earth. Now that he's in the WIldstorm Universe I could care less.
NIGHTWING #107 - A new art team and a new direction. Dick Grayson somehow ends up working for a Mafia type family but I'm not sure why or how. I'm not sure I care either.

MARVEL

EXILES #62 - The origin of the Exiles. A surprising end to the issue. Can't wait for the next. I wish they'd get a better artist on the title though.
IRON MAN #3 - Iron Man finally makes an appearence to disastrous results.
MARVEL KNIGHTS SPIDER-MAN #13 - Skipped it.
POWERS #10 (MR) - This issue wraps up one storyline and a shocking ending/start to another?.
ULTIMATE X-MEN #58 - I was surprised to see one of my favorite artists, Steve Dillon, drew this issue. Prof X acts pretty ruthless in this issue as he appears pretty much solo.
ULTIMATES 2 #5 - Another good issue. Thor vs. the Ultimates. The artwork was good as usual except some of the colors seemed off to me. Also, the overuse of special effects detract from the art is most cases.

"[A]nd a new Eclipso." Was it the new Eclipso introduced within the last year in the Justice Society comic? I read some of the JSA stories at the time, and he was intruiging.

Gil commented at 09:35 AM on April 17, 2005

This is yet another Eclipso. The Eclipso intro'ed in JSA died.
